What a week

This last week was a crazy mess. Miss R came home on Thursday with a temperature. There was an outbreak of hand, foot, mouth at school. She wasn't showing any other symptoms but the fever and had never had HFM before so we weren't sure if she had it or not.

Then Miss C broke her arm.

I had planned on being out of town with Dawn and Mom for a scrapbooking trip so SP kept the girls on Friday and took them to Nana and Papa's on Saturday so he could go to Kings Island. He started feeling bad on Saturday and by Monday he'd been diagnosed with Influenza A.

By this time Miss R's mouth had fully broken out with the sores indicating HFM. C was still in her splint and Paul was contagious. I had been lysoling and cloroxing the house trying to keep us all from getting sick. We were able to get the girls a prescription for Tamiflu along with SP.

Tuesday afternoon I started feeling achey and ended up in the Immediate Care Center. Tests for strep and flu were negative but I felt horrible. Thankfully my Mom and Nana and Papa were able to step up and help us with the girls. SP and I were in no shape to be taking care of them and I was so worried they'd get sick.

Now it's Friday and we are on the med. I missed two days of work but never had a fever. I ached all over, and was a sweaty mess. Paul spent multiple days in bed. R recovered rom HFM. C never got sick but did get her lovely new purple cast.

What a week.

Broke

Last week while playing at Granny and Grumpy's with her cousin Mia Miss C fell off the glider and hurt her arm. Grumpy thought almost immediately that it might be broken. We applied ice, called the doctor and made sure she could move everything. After a restless night of sleep it was clear that we needed to go get her checked so I loaded her into the car and too her to the K*sair facility by our house.

I am not going to lie, I was freaked out. I have never broken anything before. Never experienced that kind of pain. Never worn a cast. It's all foreign to me. And taking her knowing it was a strong possibility made me super anxious. That and she seemed so tiny and small.

They were great at the Emergency Department. It was a perfect experience for a little girl in pain and her anxious mother. They did everything right from the movies they let her watch to the doll, "Brokey" that they used to show her how her arm would be splinted.

We left that day in a bright pink split with a fractured radius and ulna. I was super proud of my little girl who was so brave.

This is sculpture of 3 baby bears and their momma bear. The sculpture is outside the children's facility and was donated by a work friend's family.


After a week in the pink splint we got the official purple cast on Mommy's birthday. When we got home we decorated it and signed our names on it. 3 weeks in the cast is what they are telling us. Cross your fingers.

Pumpkin pickin

Took the girls to the pumpkin patch to get some pumpkins for Halloween. They had a blast. It was the perfect day and I completely and thoroughly enjoyed spending the time with them and my family.

Elbow

Every day now R's vocabulary seems to grow as does her fondness for certain things. I love listening to her try to learn new words and to keep up with our conversations. Most people probably have no clue what she is saying, but I do. She's a talker and is not content to just sit around and let the rest of us do things. She wants to do it all too.

She has a strong love and fascination with both Elbow (Elmo) and Duck (any duck, chicken, bird) and will get super excited and seeing either. Typically clutched in her hands are books or dolls falling in either category. Her grip is tight and often taking those away from her at bed or bath time is met with resistance. It's so cute to see her toddling along with three duck books and an Elmo doll her sister gave her in her hands.

Speaking of her sister. R wants to do EVERYTHING C does. C pats her head, R pats her head. C twirls a circle, R twirls a circle. You kiss C, R sticks her cute little lips out and cocks her head for a kiss. Her every move and action is often her interpretation of what her sister is doing or saying. C seems to be embracing it, in between trying to tackle her in a super fierce hug.

I like watching the two of them together. R being in awe of her sister and C learning to be more gentle and giving of herself and her toys to her sister. I like to see them growing together, becoming friends and playmates. I look forward to more of that as they get older.

Ramsey's world

I forget sometimes to stop and write down what R is doing. Life is just moving so quickly. But today I will stop a reflect.

Miss R is a funny, funny girl and she knows it. She will intentionally do things that she know will make you laugh. Then she laughs. Oh how she laughs. She is always smiling and laughing. I hope that never changes because her smile is a beautiful thing to see.

I know everyone thinks their child is the smartest on Earth. But Miss R really is. The most recent example was when we were all getting ready to go on a walk and she went unprompted out to find her tennis shoes and brought them back to have them put on. Every day she amazes us with just how much she knows and understands. I will ask her to point out animals in a book and she knows so many of them.

And the words she says...wow! I am sure we are the only ones who truly understand but we do. She says book, duck, dog, sock, shoe, mama, dada, sister, etc. I think this comes from her love of books. The child would rather have a book than anything else. Then she will sit forever with the book and pretend to read. It is super cute.

Today she did one of the sweetest things ever. While sitting next to me on the couch she goes ma! Mama! And when I turned she planted a big wet kiss on me. Love my girl!

Silly girl

Miss R has been a smiley girl since birth. She laughs, smiles and has a good old time. As she gets a little older she is learning what is funny and will do things to get a laugh. She loves playing peek a boo or putting things like a ball in her mouth and then showing you.

Her vocabulary is ever increasing and her favorite, FAVORITE word and thing is DUCK. Ducks are the most exciting thing in her tiny little world. When she sees them she starts to squeal and flap her little arms and just gets all worked up. It's hilarious.
