32 weeks...and counting

Those watermelon seeds I ate as a kid sure are kicking in.

I must admit, I am missing this girl.

31 Weeks

It seems the hormones are raging at 31 weeks. It's likely a combination of hormones and anxiety over the pending birth of baby Biscuit. Or a combination of hormones, anxiety and the lack of good sleep.
I have always needed sleep. I'm not like my husband who can just roll on 4 hours of sleep like it's no big deal. I am typically an 8 hour sleep kind girl or something close. It's just one of those things you learn after 33 years...good sleep makes me productive and happy.
Lately, I have not received good sleep. There are multiple factors at play. Those long work hours which thankfully are over screwed up my routine. My sinuses are doing their own thing and I am now waking myself up because I am snoring. Rolling over or even finding a comfortable sleeping position is pretty much a thing of the past.
So, yesterday I had a meltdown. Things I can handle with a good night of sleep become majorly overwhelming and difficult to take. My feet hurt. My back hurts. My pelvis hurts in the front and my hips hurt in the back. My baby has decided to burrow into my right side and stick one of her body parts in my ribs or do some crazy contortion that makes it feel like her foot is in my back. I don't like that simple tasks like typing my shoes or getting out of the car are a chore. And what I don't like even more is my husband's freedom from all of this.
Yesterday as I had my meltdown he asked if I was jealous because he was not pregnant. Damn right I am jealous. I am majorly jealous. It's not that I don't look forward to Biscuit's arrival or that I don't feel extremely blessed that things have gone well for me where she is concerned, because I do and I am. But I want to kick him in the shins for his ability to continue living his life while mine is completely and utterly turned upside down.
It seems that a good cry is cleansing and sleeping on the couch equates to better sleep than any other place I have tried thus far. And today, all that is not as big of a deal. Clarity comes with rest.

Lost

When I told SP we needed to sign up for the hospital tour he clearly thought I was nuts. While I insisted we HAD to do it, I sorta secretly thought it was kinda stupid as well. How hard can it be to find the labor and delivery area? We are pretty smart people, I am sure we could figure it out.

Then, I went to the hospital to have my glucose test. A-MAZE-ING. I can just imagine me having contractions, freaking out and SP trying to find the damn registration area much less the labor and delivery area. It wouldn't be pretty and were it on a sitcom I am sure it would be quite comical.

What I found today when I went for the test: Parking garage with multiple entrances that take you to different "sections" of the hospital and you have to know where you are going to pick the right one. Elevators that go to only certain portions of the hospital. Take the 5th floor elevator to floor 6, walk down an unmarked hallway, then follow the yellow line on the floor to the North elevators and then go back to floor 5 which is different from the previous 5th floor you were on. Hallways that end randomly but have windows where you can see another building that you actually need to be in but are unable to figure out how to get there. Inconsistency of signage.

This is what happens when you take a building built in the 1850's and expand it. It's part old, part new, totally confusing and frustrating. By the time I made it to the newly renovated/built outpatient lab I was perturbed but I tried to be calm about it.

For the next 3 hours I drank the nastiest glucose cola that tasted like flat RC in 5 minutes, watched M@rtha Stewart, slept in a recliner, had my blood drawn 4 times in 5 attempts, felt like I might puke up the cola, watched The Price is R*ght and listened to some other pregnant girl snore as she slept in her recliner doing her blood tests. I also discovered that I should have taken the West elevator from the parking garage instead of the East because it would have saved me 10 or more minutes of wandering around trying to figure out where in the f I was.

We definitely need the hospital tour.

Not sure when I'll get the results of the glucose test but I'll let you know.

Today I feel: a baby foot, elbow, knee or something in my right side. She's a dancing queen that is for sure but in her down time she likes to hang out way over on my right side. We've discussed her moving a little and sometimes she doesn, sometimes she doesn't. That's my girl!

Birth Plan

This birth plan expresses my desires and preferences for the birth of our baby girl.
  • The arrival of my labor will be announced via the delivery of 9 dozen red roses. One for each month of my pregnancy. Attached will be a short note that says, You are now in labor.
  • Following the arrival of the roses, a pregnancy stylist will arrive to help me pick out the best outfits for the trip to the birthing center, the delivery, the recovery and the departure from the birthing center.
  • While I review the finest figure flattering styles, I will get a manicure, pedicure and my hair styled. In addition, the hair on my legs will be painlessly waxed away.
  • Once dressed, sufficiently manicured and fully in labor without a cramp or contraction in site, a limo will arrive to drive me to the birthing center.
  • I will sip champagne and eat chocolate covered strawberries as the limo carries me to my destination.
  • The birthing center will be like walking into the finest spa in the world complete with low lighting, fluffy robes and people waiting on you hand and foot.
  • If there is another woman giving birth at the same time I will not know she is even exists. The staff of the birth center will greet me at the door and will make me feel like I am the only person on the planet giving birth.
  • My labor outfit will be replaced with my delivery outfit as I eat grapes and cheese and get a back massage.
  • The scent of lavendar will surround me and candles will be everywhere. The space will be void of loud noises, obnoxious smells, beeping monitors, or anything resembling a clinical environment.
  • SP will be by my side the entire time getting his own male version of pampering.
  • Soft music will be playing and those tending to me, while medically trained, will blend with the environment, not clash with it.
  • Once comfortably massaged, pampered, lavendared and catered to, I will give a gentle nod and the baby will slide right out.
  • There will be no pushing, no burning, no bowel movments on a delivery table, no episiotomy, no discomfort or displeasure of any kind.
  • Baby Biscuit will arrive all pink and clean just like in the movies.
  • She will gracefully cry and then immediately breast feed without complication.
  • Once her belly is full she will be held by her daddy as I change into my recovery outfit.
  • SP, Baby Biscuit and I will lie together in an oversized bed full of pillows and satin sheets. More flowers will be delivered, more champagne and cheese, more lavendar and soft music.
  • All will be right in the world.

Shower me with love

Showerpallooza Event 1

The first shower was Mom's side of the family and Bruce's family. My aunts and Mom did an amazing job and the outpouring of love we felt was overwhelming.

We played the cutest memory game totally stolen from Amy's shower where you have have all these pregnancy related terms and you have to remember what numbers they are under and match them up. For example: match two "baby name" squares and you win a Baby Ruth.

The food was great, the company was better and Dawn and I had an amazing time.

30 weeks

I successfully managed to consume the glucose for the test only to fail it. Now I have to take the 3 hour test so we'll see how that goes. Also found out I am anemic so I am now taking an iron supplement.
It's been a crazy couple of weeks with work and amazingly I have held up pretty well considering. Had a couple of days where Biscuit wasn't moving like she usually does and that had me worried, but I think our girl just needed some downtime like her mom. She's back to her usually boxing, kicking and flipping around.
I am starting to mildly panic about all I feel needs to be done between now and Feb. It's really not that far away and there seems to be so much that needs to be done. Biscuit will come regardless of whether I am ready or not, so I am crossing my fingers and hoping I have enough done.

Down Under in preparation for Baby F

House of Change

Shower #1 - Girl's Group

I am blessed to be part of a 9 group of Girls/Women that gets together monthly. The group is made up of women who who have known each other since grade school, high school, college, etc. This group started out as my sister's friends and have evolved into my friends as well.

I love these girls. I could not imagine my life without them as they have taught me so much about friendship, being a woman and being a soon to be mom. We had the best joint shower at K's house, who was pregnant with her 2nd child at the time. She delivered a beautiful baby girl last week.
