  • I have 4 showers to tell you about but feel like I should devote some time to the telling, which, I don't have right now. I will say that I am blessed with an amazing group of friends and family who make me (and my baby) feel so special and loved. To say Thank You doesn't quite seem like enough.
  • Did you know pregnant women can take R*butussin? Me either until I found myself sick for the second time in less than a month and coughing like I'd either a) swallowed a seal or b) smoked 3 packs a day for 80 years.
  • This is officially the first week of "go-live" for pilot 1 of my project and I had to take yesterday off because I felt so bad. Thankfully a little rest, antibiotics, cough medicine and OJ makes me feel better.
  • Unfortunately working 7 AM - 7 PM is exhausting so I am not doing much else but coughing, tossing and turning and working. I may get my tree up before Valentine's Day.
  • Saw the OBGYN yesterday.
  • Managed to consume the glucose crap and not vomit it all over the place. Unfortunately, my urine had a high amount of glucose so it's likely I will have failed this little blood test and require further testing.
  • I am sure the glucose thing has nothing to do with my constant craving of chocolate for months 4 and 5 of my pregnancy.
  • Biscuit measured exactly where she should be. Her heartbeat was heard and sounded good. She is currently residing head down and in a c-curve position with her back along my right side and her little feet by my ribs.
  • Turns out all those whopping "kicks" I have been feeling and that are moving my clothing are actually her little arms. Girl packs a punch.
  • Had to get copies of my medical record for travel for Christmas.

Last night, driving home from a night out with friends, we saw a PT Cruiser lose control as it drove down a ramp from one interstate to the one we were on. The roads were wet and the car was likely going too fast down the curved ramped. I crossed 3 lanes in an attempt to get us as far from that car in the event the lack of control sent it our way.

As I maneuvered away from the car we saw it leave the interstate spinning into the woods along the side of the road hitting the guard rail perpendicularly as it went. Back across the interstate I went to the emergency lane as other cars drove past obviously not seeing the car obscured by the woods, the darkness and the overpass above.

SP ran back to check on the driver of the car. I called 911. A cop happened to drive by and stopped as did another couple driving down the ramp onto the interstate. I then began to walk back to the wrecked car to tell them an ambulance was on the way.

As I walked I was trying to locate my husband among the concrete support beams from the overhead interstate and the headlights of the cop car. As I searched and walked I saw another car become airbourne and flip over the guard rail and onto the other hood of the PT Cruiser. I was screaming for my husband, in shock, and moving as fast as a pregnant girl can move on the side of the interstate in the dark and rain.

I continued to yell for SP as cars whipped by and I could not see him. The couple who had stopped met me and I continued to yell for SP and kept asking if my husband was ok. The husband part of that couple directed us behind the guard rail and away from the actual accident for fear another car would lose control.

As I tried to console the wife of that couple as she flipped out and complained of a hurt arm from her husband pulling her away from the rolling car, multiple police cars arrived, a fire truck came, ambulances arrived and an off-duty parametic showed up to help. They shut down the interstate and the ramp that had be a major factor in the accident itself.

What I did not know, was SP and the first officer on the scene were determining how to get the driver out of the PT Cruiser when the second car came. They were near that car discussing getting the driver out of the back door as the others were crushed and unable to open.

SP heard the second car coming and saw it out of the corner of his eye. He yelled to the officer to get down and pushed him to the ground as he moved out of the way of the flipping vehicle. He can't recall if the car flipped over him or directly in front of him, but it was close enough to think in that flash he'd either be pinned under the car or against a tree.

When that second car landed, it was upright and resting partially on the roof of the Cruiser. The officer was face down under the second car. From my perspective I could see none of this. I could not hear the cop screaming from under the car or see his legs twitching as SP could. I could not see my husband and that was all I cared about.

SP pulled the cop from under the 2nd car. Another officer showed up and tended to the officer as SP went to check on the driver of the 2nd car. She was screaming and bleeding from a cut on her face. Her car was covered in what looked like vomit and she had a dog at her feet. The vomit turned out to be a casserole that did not survive the rolling.

In the end, the officer ended up with a burned shoulder from the muffler, the drivers of both cars were not seriously injured and SP was thanked by another officer for helping the first officer. The newspaper and TV covered the story and got it all wrong. It's like we weren't even there. But, we were.

We drove home in shock as the interstate remained blocked. They had SPs statement, but never asked if he was ok. Physically, he was and so was I. But mentally, emotionally, we were both having different, yet similar reactions to what we had just experienced. I almost lost my husband. He almost lost his life. Our relationship took a turn where all those trivial things that had been biting at us with work and home construction and whatever else were gone in an instant.

This year, we have so much to be thankful for and this clearly put that into perspective.

Falling

It's a known fact of pregnancy that your sense of balance is off. I have stumbled more during this pregnancy than I think I ever have in my life. When SP and I go for walks I spend a lot of time holding on to his shirt or arm or hand (or butt) because I tend to just not be as sure-footed.

Slipping in the Kr0ger or stumbling off the curb after lunch scares the shit out of me and I totally blame it on Gr*y's Anatomy. There was this episode where this pregnant chick fell and lost her baby. She then had to DELIVER the baby. It was traumatic when I saw it and I wasn't pregnant, now every misstep freaks me out.

So, when my sister fell this weekend after Amy's shower, I must admit it freaked me out...A LOT. Sometimes there are sides of my personality that come out and the one that is protective of my sister came out on Saturday. I was so worried about her as I know she would have been about me had the roles been reversed. That's what we do. We take care of each other. Some sort of crazy instinct kicks in and all I can think about is making sure she is ok.

Thankfully, both mom and baby are ok. Mom has a nice swollen ankle to go with her swollen belly which is not ideal with all that is going on right now, but they are ok and that really is all that matters.

Blah

I am a little cranky. OK, so maybe not a little. A lot. I am blaming it entirely on being pregnant and hormonal. But really, I am just in a bad mood.

I am sure pregnancy and hormones are a part of it and the fact that my house is in complete and utter disarray. Not to mention the job stress SP and I are both currently in the midst of dealing with. Each thing individually makes life stressful, together, very stressful.

Screaming sounds like a really good idea just to get a release, but my throat still hurts. So, that's out. Hitting things seems ridiculous. I did yoga earlier this week, maybe I'll do it again. I mean, exercise has always been my stress reliever and that has diminished greatly with pregnancy and even more so lately because I have felt icky. Maybe that's the ticket. I need to exercise.

That's what I'll do today. Yoga. Ride the stationary bike. Exercise. Release endorphins.

Today I feel: CRANKY

99 baby bottles of non-beer on the wall

Well, we have officially moved to double-digit days, instead of triple-digit days, until Biscuit arrives. Time sure flies when you are puking and have a kicking baby in your belly.

In the weeks to come it will be madness around here. We have Showerpallooza where there will be 3 showers over the course of one weekend. I may need a bigger car to drive everything home.

I also have Amy's shower which I am excited about because I haven't seen her since she found out she was pregnant. My how the Pink Ladies have changed. Rizzo would be so proud that we are knocked up.

I will also have a shower with SP's family, finish the nursery, hopefully have a finished bathroom AND Pilot 1 of my project will go-live...ALL before Christmas.

Our 1-day child birth class is in January. There's also a child safety and br*astfeeding class to sign up for. Not sure when I am going to find time to BREATHE but it's all good. Just prepping for when Biscuit is actually here and we go non-stop.

Today I feel: better than I have in 3 weeks. Antibiotic is working. Feel moderately rested. Not taking work too seriously. Loving my husband for having dinner ready for me on Monday after a horrific day...nothing says I love you like warmed up pot roast and apple pie.

It was bound to happen

Haven't really felt like writing much because I have been sick. It started about 3 weeks ago when I felt a little cloudy with a headache and sinus stuff. That progressed quite nicely to nasal irritation, drainage, aches and finally a violent cough that made my throat feel like it was lined with razor blades.

Needless to say, it hasn't been fun especially when everyone is saying you can't take anything. This, I have learned, is not entirely true. In fact my OBYN said I could take most over-the-counter meds out there. That really didn't diminish my paranoia that my medication usage would somehow cause Biscuit to grow another head or end up with some rare birth defect that only medication can cause.

In the end, I trusted my doctor, a little. I took minimal amounts of Tylen0l at night so I could sleep a little and cough drops. Typically, I'd take some N*quil and call it a day. But, I felt the need to be more cautious, and as a result, have been sick longer.

Today, still hacking but feeling moderately better after staying home yesterday and consuming about a gallon of OJ, I went to the allergist who prescribed me an antibi0tic. I was shocked and still a little unsure despite the fact that he knows I am pregnant and he IS a person I trust. I looked it up and it's a safe one but I am so scared to take it.

But, I will because I am coughing up stuff in a nice shade of green and that can't be good either.
