Twins

When Dawn and I were little Mom used to dress us in matching outfits. People often thought we were twins. So, it seems only appropriate that at 9 and 10 weeks pregnant we find ourselves in the same damn shirt at a party. Of all the clothes in all the stores we pick the exact same non-maternity shirt. Go figure.

Blur

I apologize profusely for the poor quality of the ultrasound pic but my scanner is not working. These were taken with the digital camera and well, they suck. Really you aren't missing any detail other than the fact that Biscuit looks like a little hand puppet.

The exciting news is that there is a baby in there and a legit cause for all the nausea and vomiting. We have a due date of 2/20 and I must say the thump, thump, thump of it's little heart beat was reassuring.

Today I feel: pleased that the nausea, while still present, is not as intense or as all consuming. Hopeful that I will soon end my 12 day vomiting streak and be able to actually enjoy little Biscuit.

The post that won't post

When I stayed home from work earlier this week I watched some of those birth stories they show on TV. Holy hell. I have 9 months to figure out how in the hell I am supposed to do that. At this point I am not sure I will do it gracefully since this last week of SEVERE nausea and vomiting have pretty much knocked me on my ass.

What I find to be interesting is that women do this more than once despite the sickness, the body changes, the labor and delivery. The power of the baby itself much be so intense that it makes those things seem insignificant. I’ll let you know if I believe that when it happens.

Today I am going to try and venture out of the house for a pedicure and a little shopping. My life for the past week has involved work and lying on the sofa. I am afraid to go anywhere because I honestly would rather puke in the comfort of my own home. But, the nausea is nowhere near as intense as it was earlier this week and I can’t sick in here forever. So, we’ll see what happens.

I plan on taking another picture soon…there really is no change and I haven’t really felt photogenic lately.

Today I feel: moderately queasy and anxious about my ultrasound on Monday.

1st OB Appt

Knock on wood I have made it through the entire day without throwing up and the nausea, while still there, is not as severe as it's been. Yesterday I had acupuncture for my "unruly chi" and I am not sure if that is what helped relieve my symptoms or not, but I'll take whatever I can get.

I was able to get in to see the new OBGYN today. Not the exact doc that was referred to me, but someone else in the practice. They require you to see all docs in the practice because they rotate rounds for deliveries so you could have any one of them when you give birth.

SP and I both liked him and we liked the staff. BIG DIFFERENCE. We had a lot of "office time" in his private office where we asked questions and he provided information. Very un-rushed and informative.

My exam revealed there is a baby in there. He said just one; the ultrasound on Monday may confirm that…we’ll see.

Today I feel: mildly sick, tired and a little crampy

Up to this point in my life I really did think I was a pretty tough chick. I've got 4 tattoos and have had my navel pierced twice. That's pain. I've pushed myself through rehab for knee surgery and well, I thought of myself as mentally and physically capable.

I was wrong.

I am a wuss. Big fat baby and Biscuit is putting me in my place for what I assume will be the first of many times. Nausea and vomiting are putting me quickly in my place and squarely in my bed on my back.

Given what has taken place with my sister I am trying like hell to a) not complain and b) feel blessed and happy. But, I must be honest. This sucks. SUCKS. I was not prepared for this.

Definitely not prepared for the tight knotted feeling in my stomach that creeps up my insides and sits in my throat. Not prepared for the tight, sensitive, DON'T TOUCH me feeling in my belly that makes anything but lying on my back comfortable. And there's the vomiting. Wasn't prepared for that especially when pretty much everything I put in my mouth eventually comes back up. Everything. At any time.

It's difficult to keep it from people at work when I am green with nausea and running to the bathroom every 5 minutes gagging. Yesterday about did me in and I was afraid to open my mouth to speak during meetings for fear I would projectile vomit all over the place. I am sick of Sprite and Canada Dry and Saltines. Sick of popscicles and peppermints and plastic bags tucked in my purse.

Today I stayed home because I couldn't keep a thing down last night and slept horribly. I know I am not the only woman to experience this. But for the life of me, I can't figure out how these women work. I could hardly think at work yesterday because my brain was so preoccupied with feeling sick and fearing I would be sick.

I am off now to the acupuncturist/OBGYN to hopefully help a bit because I need so relief. Just a hour or two during the day where I don't feel like absolute ass.

Too sick to post.

Sunday, July 8, 2007

  • I was sick our entire vacation.

  • Nothing like having a hangover and not being able to drink a damn thing.

  • Morning, noon, night...nausea and sometimes vomiting.

  • Thankfully I was not at work because I am not sure I could have endured that while trying to work.

  • I did manage to get a tan and spend time with my family.

  • The sad news is Dawn had a miscarriage. Words cannot even express how this makes me feel.
  • More later

Today I feel: queasy, tired and like my sides are stretching a bit.
