Again?

Really I should swipe the phase, "that was the worst night ever" from my file folder market commonly used phrases for parenting. We've had some pretty rough nights, don't get me wrong. Those times when she was first born and was screaming all the time were brutal but this past Thursday was in the running for one of the worst.

Miss C had been fussy all week and we thought it was her two incisors that were coming in causing her to be so irritable. We were wrong.

Thursday she screamed the whole way home from day care like she was in horrible pain. Then she wouldn't eat. She had massive amounts of drool and didn't want to drink anything either.

I saw some sores on her tongue so we gave her Tylenol for the discomfort but nothing helped. NOTHING. From the time we put her to bed until the time we took her to the doctor on Friday at noon, she woke up screaming crying every hour on the hour unless she was being held and then she maybe slept for 90 minutes instead of 60.

I held her in the rocking chair off and on until about 2 AM. Then we moved to the chaise in the living room where she slept briefly reclined between my legs and slept briefly. Then we moved to the family room and tried the sofa. That didn't work. So we tried the sofa in the basement in a effort to allow SP a little bit of scream free sleep. There she slept on and off until about 7 AM.

It was BRUTAL.

When we were finally able to get her to open her mouht so we could see her tongue we found it covered in huge sores. A visit to the doctor helped a little...we got the exact dosage for the Benadryl (1/2 tsp) and Malox (1/2 tsp)mixture but otherwise it wasn't much of a diagnosis. He thought it was a strain of Hand, Foot and Mouth but typically you don't get it that close together and she just had it in May. It sucks because there really isn't much you can do about it other than let it run its course.

Today, thankfully she is starting to seem like herself again. The sores that were on her lips are gone. She never got them on her hands or her feet. The ones are her tongue aren't as big and she is eating and drinking more.
